Esperada are an acoustic duo, consisting of Ned Mortimer and Vedantha Kumar. Their blend of abundant vocal harmonies, intricate guitars, multiculturalism (and a dodgy grasp of spanish) has taken them on a musical journey that has quite simply been the best journey of their lives. They hope to one day become superstars, so that they can have Jack Black on speed-dial...Esperada's fundamental philosophy is an unrestricted freedom of expression to help create something honest, and which they can be truly proud of. We hope you enjoy listening to our songs as much as we have loved making them. What follows is the fairytale story of how two noblemen set sail upon the musical waters...

----------------

One fine summer afternoon in Cambridge, in the year 2009, Edmund Mortimer, a Franco-Russian law student with a penchant for classical literature, was hanging out with some of his female companions on Queen’s Green, next to the River Cam. They were sipping Pimms and engaging in a wild game of croquet. One of his opponents played a particularly fierce shot which sent Edmund’s ball zipping along the lawn and into the River.

“Oh no, you’ve croqueted my ball!” exclaimed Edmund, chasing it to the riverbank. Passionately ripping off his shirt, he jumped into the river to retrieve it. Disaster struck. Hitting his head on a pile of broken glass and old textbooks in the murky water, he was knocked unconscious. As he slid under the surface several crocodiles, native to Cambridge for some reason, set upon his cataleptic form.

At that moment, Vedantha Kumar, an Indian philosophy student and self-proclaimed philanthropist, was floating past in a punt, reading Descartes and playing with himself (chess that is). He saw this strange-looking individual in mortal peril and, recognising the urgency of the situation, finished bashing his bishop and jumped in still wearing his Indian dress. He impaled one of the crocodiles on his massive punt pole and drove the other one away with his rendition of Beirut’s entire back catalogue. He pulled Edmund out of the water with one hand, using the other hand to checkmate his opponent (himself).

As Edmund and Vedantha lay gasping and panting on the bank of the River Cam, they began to start talking about their shared musical influences. Once Edmund had discovered that Vedantha did actually like bands other than Beirut (this part of the story is a lie) and that they supported the same football team (Newcastle) they decided to form a band. Thus, ESPERADA were formed."

Note to reader: no animals were harmed in the making of the band, unless you count Edmund’s previously excellent croquet-record. And the two crocodiles.
