It all began as a distraction from work. Aron and Ash worked together and would spend their days sharing CD's such as The Smiths, Wilko, The Dears, Morrissey and Johnny Cash.
Aron (acoustic guitar) had notepads full of lyrics and melodies. Ash was mastering the drums, alongside studying musical theory at college. The two started jamming in their lunch hour, Aron nervously sharing some of his early songs and Ash adding his own distinctive beat. The lunchtime sessions were experiments with Johnny cash covers and Elvis songs.
Keogh (bass) had recently split from his old band The Greenlights (www.myspace.com/thegreenlightsuk), a friend of Aron’s, he was keen to start a new band. Eventually Keogh joined the jamming sessions and started playing to songs Aron had penned.
Stu (lead guitar) was introduced to Aron when he moved to the area from Romford. Stu had previously played and recorded with bands in and around London. He joined in with the jamming and became the missing link. With Stu on board the band became complete. The four would rehearse in a disused warehouse. Each would add their own ingredient and soon they had a bunch of songs they were happy with. The Avocets were formed.
Their first gig at The Globe Ale House in Cambridge was encouraging and since then they have played a number of different venues, band days and festivals, with regular bookings at local pubs, they moved further afield and played their first London gig in The Purple Turtle in Camden. They have been played on BBC radio Suffolk and local radio.
